Guiana Space Centre (CSG) is spaceport in French Guiana, a region of South America. It is jointly owned and managed by the European Space Agency (ESA), the French space agency National Centre for Space Studies (CNES).
CSG is the main launch site for European government space missions. The reason it's not located in Europe is that South America offers certain geographical advantages. It is near the equator which makes launches more energy-efficient, and it has a launch path over clear ocean.
